Libertarian Booster PAC, which helped only Texas candidates in 2012, is considering an expansion to other states. We're researching election opportunities and legal issues.
One state we're examining is Virginia, which has elections for governor and also the House of Delegates (that's one house of the state legislature) in November 2013. We'd love to see nine candidates for House of Delegates, and a candidate for governor. Candidates for House of Delegates require 125 petition signatures, and it's 10,000 signatures for governor. We don't have firm plans, but below is a possible scenario: For Libertarian Party candidates for the House of Delegates, our PAC would consider paying 100% of the petition drive costs. Our PAC would also make campaign websites and provide a limited number of free campaign materials such as yard signs, bumper stickers, and business cards. For governor, our PAC would consider contributing around $10,000 to the petition drive. We prefer to operate in areas where our help is wanted. We understand that the Libertarian Party leadership and other volunteers in some areas may prefer not to have our PAC's assistance. For more about what Libertarian Booster PAC has done, see our 2012 report. Please contact me and let me know if you will consider running for office in Virginia in 2013. I can imagine getting started with petitioning as soon as we identify the first five candidates. --Wes Benedict President, Libertarian Booster PAC 512-659-8896 wesliberty@aol.com

[UPDATE 2/20/2013: Position filled by Mike Kane, a 2011 Libertarian candidate for Virginia House of Delegates.]
Libertarian Booster PAC is considering contracting with someone for a temporary project to recruit and assist Libertarian Party candidates for office in Virginia. Duties: - Recruit Libertarian Party candidates to run for the Virginia House of Delegates and possibly governor. - Contact prospective candidates by phone, email, and on rare occasions in person. - Understand the campaign election rules and paperwork. - As needed, help candidates fill out all necessary paperwork and make sure they file paperwork on time. Getting the paperwork and details right is a critical part of this project. - Manage petitioning for House of Delegates candidates. - Contact Libertarian Party of Virginia leadership to get buy-in and cooperation. - Work with Libertarian Booster PAC to collect necessary information for production of websites and campaign materials. Qualifications: The ideal person for this project has recruited Libertarian Party candidates in the past, has been a Libertarian Party candidate, has been a party or campaign treasurer, has been a Libertarian Party officer at the state or local level, and has other experience volunteering with the Libertarian Party. However, we're willing to train on all aspects. We're looking for someone who is reliable and a self-starter, but also someone willing to take instruction, and someone expecting to work part-time for low pay. If we don't find the right person, we'll handle this with existing staff. Virginia resident preferred, but not required. Compensation: This is not a full-time job. Probably will average around 10 hours per week for several months. Contractor might already have a full-time or part-time job. Pay is negotiable and dependent on the experience and scope of duties the contractor can handle. We're looking for someone dedicated to the cause. Background: We highly recommend reading How to Recruit an Army of Candidates and the Libertarian Booster PAC 2012 Report. How to apply: Please do not call. Send an email to wesliberty@aol.com describing your interest and qualifications. Feel free to attach a resume and any other documents or links to other information that may be helpful. |
