Calendar (mostly from Secretary of State's elections calendar page and Filing in the Libertarian Party or Green Party 2022 Convention Process)
November 13, 2021 First day candidate may submit filing fee or petition.
December 13, 2021 Candidate filing closes (was 6:00 pm in 2019). Candidate application and petition or filing fee due (unless overturned by court order).
January 2, 2022 (need to verify) Last day for a party with state organization, which intends to make nominations by convention, to register with Secretary of State.
March 1, 2022 Primary Election Day (Libertarians should not participate)
March 8, 2022 Precinct conventions held to elect delegates to county or district conventions of minor parties.
March 12, 2022 County convention for minor parties (Libertarians) that are nominating candidates for single-county district, county, or precinct offices.
March 19, 2022 District convention for minor parties (Libertarians) nominating candidates for multi-county district offices.
April 9, 2022 State convention for minor party (Libertarian) that is nominating candidates for statewide offices.
October 24, 2022 First day of early voting by personal appearance for November 8 general election.
October 28, 2022 Last day of early voting by personal appearance for November 8 general election.
November 3, 2022 Election Day

Are county chairs permitted to run for office?
Yes, as of 2013. Previously, no. From Texas Election Code Section 161.005: "(c) A candidate for nomination or election to, or the holder of, an elective office of the federal, state, or county government is eligible to serve as a county or precinct chair of a political party to which Chapter 181 applies." 161.005(c) was added during the 2013 legislature.
