As the article puts it, "After 35 years of public service, Precinct 2 Bexar County Commissioner Paul Elizondo still hasn't had enough."
No one should hold political office for 35 years, but more importantly, no one should want to.
Unfortunately, political offices come with lots of money, power and prestige, when they should be boring, unpleasant jobs that people take on reluctantly. For a lot of officeholders, once they're in there, they never want to leave.
Libertarians call for cutting government and reducing the power and rewards of "public service." Then maybe we'll have fewer 35-year career officeholders.
